MAPSpace gallery is pleased to present Viscera, a two-person exhibition of works on paper, sculpture, and video by Elizabeth Mihaltse Lindy and Kiki McGrath. The artists approach the body as a living archive—a site of inscription, accumulation, and release—and artmaking as a devotional act.
Mihaltse Lindy’s work includes paintings from her ongoing Living Ink series and single-channel videos. Her large-format paper pieces are built from translucent, layered membranes hung directly on the wall, constructed through repeated application and drying so the paper itself becomes a record of process.
McGrath’s The Long Keeping is a linen hairshirt with hand-embroidered text worn directly against the skin. Her charcoal drawings are inspired by anatomical votives and the wall-based text piece, rendered at architectural scale, includes fragments from an ancient
Gnostic poem spoken by a female narrator. At the closing event on October 3, visitors are invited to participate in the workshop Drawing In Breath, which combines mark making, sound, and movement.
